Who is American Cart & Rack?
American Cart & Rack Company is a subsidiary of Granite Industries that specializes in hand trucks and racking systems. Granite Industries is a manufacturing company located in Archbold, OH. For more information on the story behind American Cart and Rack, feel free to check out our recent blog post. Essentially, American Cart & Rack was created to fulfill a need within the rental industry for heavy duty hand trucks that could handle the daily tasks throw its way. The hand trucks range from the well built standard hand truck to our incredible Monster Mover. Each hand truck has been used and abused within the rental industry and has come out a winner. Our carts and hand trucks continue to develop and improve over time. This year at the 2018 ARA Rental Show we will have the absolute latest hand trucks and carts.
Introducing the Fork Hand Truck
The Fork Hand Truck has been a staple of American Cart & Rack from the beginning. It will be a featured cart that the 2018 ARA Rental Show. It is provides amped up capabilities when compared to our standard hand truck. Capable of hauling 600 pounds, the double reinforced frame is one of the strongest on the market. The adjustable steel forks allow for improved load handling. A standard hand truck is limited to the standard footplate which is normally about 14″W by 10″D. The Fork Hand Truck offers 20″ long forks that provide 20″ of depth. The forks can be set so they are together in the center of the cart. This provides a platform 6″ wide by 20″ deep. The forks can also be pushed all the way to the corners. This allows a span of 19″ from fork edge to fork edge, along with 20″ of depth. This creates a support area that is essentially 3 times larger than a standard hand truck. Check it out online.

The side angle above shows a couple unique features of the cart. American Carts are designed for the best user experience. There are two ways to push or pull the cart; by the traditional P handle or the angled grips. The P Handle design has been around since the first hand truck. It provides a simple grip for easy pushing and pulling. We noticed a demand for an additional way to support hand trucks. Under heavy loads, the P Handle is not ergonomic and often results in unstable load support. The first set of hand grips were introduced but didn’t quite do what we wanted. They were perpendicular to the carts. The angled design came from talking to customers at the Rental Show. The design allows for better load handling. The rubber handles provide additional grip.
This angle shows the benefit of the improved support area. Large loads can easily be loaded on the cart without fear of them tipping forward. This is a common problem for the smaller hand trucks. If a load is too large, it can sometimes take two people to hold the load in place while the cart is pulled back. The Fork Hand Truck solves this problem by offering substantially more support area. Another thing to note is the 10″ flat free wheels with steel hubs. These wheels are mounted to an industry leading 3/4″ axle. The Fork Hand Truck is built with performance and reliability in mind.
The cart is packed with versatility, yet is still quite manageable to move. The overall width of 22 inches allows it to fit through any standard doorway.
The built in bolts hold the forks in place and keep them from falling off the edge. The steel forks move simply and easily without tools.
